The Exterminator’s Apocalypse, Episode two, Exterminate!
Welcome Survivors to the second episode of “The Apocalypse Café”.
This is a series I’ve created as a follow up to the After the Apocalypse 5 season run. Her we feature new artists with new stories.
If you are looking for the original five seasons of the After the Apocalypse story arc then you need to start at Season one, Episode one.
I’ve decided to tweak the format after listening to the first episode. I found the commercial break after the introduction to be an awful experience, so, instead, today, I’m going to read this short introduction then we’ll fade right into the story episode, and I’ll throw a commercial break at the end followed by a more traditional outro, where I can provide additional updates.
So, when you hear the outro music you can skip ahead.
Today we present episode 2 of a 3-episode arc written by Patrick Rushbrook. And performed by Austin C. Baker – The Exterminator’s Apocalypse, Part 2, “Extermination.”

Patrick Rushbrook is a self-described “middle aged white guy in Kentucky with a beautiful wife and two teenage daughters, who writes silly stories to entertain himself instead of doing more productive things with his spare time.”
Patrick had always been interested in writing but isn’t exactly a self-starter, so he didn’t take up the craft until age 39, after finding Reddit’s nosleep page. Growing jealous of some of the wildly successful, yet terribly written stories there and craving reddit upvotes to satisfy his fragile ego, he ventured into the game where one of his early stories was the first iteration of the Exterminator character. In 2024, Patrick achieved the title of “professional writer” by earning an incredible $400.
In addition to his literary endeavors, Patrick is also a professional drummer and an un-professional guitarist, where he’s earned a grand total of $75 and a t-shirt that was three sizes too big.

By the way Patrick is eager for feedback on his story and characters, so when you’re finished listening, emit some cogent syllables to us via your podcast app or Facebook or email or Pat’s Instagram / Subreddit

The story is read lovingly into audio by Austin C. Baker, who is a storyteller and experience designer from Plymouth, Indiana, with a lifelong passion for narrative and creativity. From writing comic books and filming backyard skits as a kid to designing immersive events and ghostwriting fiction, Austin has always sought out meaningful ways to connect with audiences.
He holds degrees in Experience Design, History, and Strategic Leadership & Design from the University of Indianapolis, where he also spent several years teaching. Alongside his design and writing work, Austin is an actor and voice actor, bringing characters to life across screen and audio.
Today, he runs BDP XD (https://www.bdpxd.com/ ), his own experience design studio, while also continuing to write and teach professionally.
I will put all of these links into the show notes and the accompanying post on my website at oldmanapocalypse.com
Now, let’s enjoy “The Exterminator’s Apocalypse, Part two, “Extermination”.
Outro AC S6 E2 “Extermination”
OK my Survivor friends, as promised hear are some outro comments to catch you up.
First, I wanted to thank Patrick for putting up with me – when it comes to editing I’m a narcissistic asshat and he has been very accommodating.
I love Patrick’s character and comic timing. The dialogue is great. The characters are larger than life. What we are getting is just a small slice of the universe that Patrick has created. We agreed on a 3-episode arc, because it seemed like enough to introduce a good story.
He may do more and may set up his own podcast feed for this story, but be sure to give us some feedback on Patrick’s work here.
For those time travelers out there it is the end of August 2025. It has been a lovely couple months since we wrapped up the main After the Apocalypse story arc and transitioned to the Apocalypse Café.
I have been working with authors and voice talent to create a steady publication schedule for the Apocalypse Café. Patrick is just the first. I have a very funny werewolf story in the que and another, darker, atmospheric post-apocalyptic series that we’re editing as well.
I would like to say that my summer has been a time of sloth and turpitude where I have been lying about in the sun sipping pina coladas, but it has not. I have not only been editing and procuring voice artists, but have also been beavering away on several related administrative repair projects for you.
First, I’ve created a new website ChrisRussellAuthor.com to consolidate my various projects and content under one umbrella. This will give you some insight into the different aspects of my body-of-work from my running podcast and books to the Apocalypse efforts.
Second, I know you hate ads, I hate ads, so I’m creating 100% ad-free versions of the podcast on our Patreon page. I’m almost through Season one. Keep and eye on that. I will be re-doing that Patreon site to consolidate a place where you can join up and get everything.
Third, I have written a new story in our universe, aptly called, “The Apocalypse Café” that you’re going to love and we’ll get that on the publishing table. I was starting to have writing withdrawals and I realized I’ve been doing everything except the very thing that I set this up for to begin with!
Fourth, I have been on a reading binge. I set a goal to read 12 books in 12 weeks over the summer, and I am going to achieve it. More on that and what I learned from it in the future.
Fifth, I’ve been training for a marathon, which in the hot summer months means I’ve needed to get out early in the morning, and that morning time is also my writing time, so, yah, some drop in productivity, but the race is September 7th and winter is coming, so I should get my mornings back.
Sixth, I have not been spending any time on the second book, but now that I’ve got some basic infrastructural stuff going I’ll be able to transition back to it!
Why do you care? Well, I guess you care because a few weeks ago we left the bunker and have been wandering the apocalypse looking for a new home, a new purpose. Now as we crest a ragged and windswept crag, pursued by malevolent, violet-eyed dire-wolves, we see a village. A village where other survivors like us are huddled trying to scratch a living from the tortured earth.
We add our numbers to theirs. Together we will strive to build something new.
Together we will keep surviving!
